The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has denied reports alleging that repentant Boko Haram members are being recruited into the Nigerian Army.
In a statement, the military described the reports as false, misleading, and capable of creating unnecessary tension among Nigerians. It maintained that the Nigerian Army’s recruitment process remains transparent and is governed by strict eligibility requirements.
According to the DHQ, individuals with criminal backgrounds or links to terrorist activities are not eligible for enlistment into the Armed Forces. The military stressed that the ongoing recruitment exercise is conducted in line with established standards and applicable laws.
The clarification follows reports circulating on social media claiming that dozens of repentant Boko Haram members had been shortlisted for the 2026 Nigerian Army recruitment exercise in Borno State.
The Defence Headquarters urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports and rely on official channels for information relating to military operations and recruitment.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism while maintaining the integrity and professionalism of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
