The General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Hon. Ogbonnia Okereke, has personally visited a citizen hospitalized after a violent attack by a member of the agency’s disbanded monitoring team in Umuahia.
Describing the incident as “disturbing, shameful, and unacceptable,” Okereke reassured the victim of the state government’s commitment to justice and citizen protection.
He clarified that the officer involved belonged to a monitoring unit already disbanded due to misconduct and reiterated ASEPA’s zero-tolerance policy toward brutality.
The GM has ordered a full investigation into the attack, warning that anyone found culpable will face disciplinary and legal consequences. He urged the public to report any harassment by environmental officers, promising prompt and transparent action.
Observers say the visit underscores the Alex Otti-led administration’s emphasis on accountability and citizen safety.
