KADUNA, NIGERIA – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami (SAN), and former Minister Rotimi Amaechi were among the prominent political figures who visited former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to commiserate over the death of his mother, Hajiya Halima El-Rufai.
The visit, which took place at El-Rufai’s residence in Kaduna, saw a rare convergence of political leaders from across party lines. In a statement after the visit, the group described El-Rufai’s spirit as “unbroken” despite the personal loss and his ongoing legal battles.
“We came to stand with our brother. Malam is strong. His spirit remains unbroken,” a source close to the delegation said.
Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was seen alongside Malami and Amaechi—both chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—offering condolences to the family.
The visit comes amid El-Rufai’s ongoing trial over money laundering charges filed by the ICPC. The former governor has pleaded not guilty, with the case adjourned to March 31.
El-Rufai expressed gratitude to the visitors, describing the outpouring of support as a testament to enduring friendships beyond politics.
