JERUSALEM, ISRAEL – The Israeli military has confirmed that it struck a facility in Iran involved in the production of naval weapons, including unmanned surface vessels and missiles used for maritime attacks.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strike targeted a military compound in the coastal city of Bandar Abbas, which it described as a key hub for Iranian naval weapons development. The operation, carried out using precision munitions, successfully destroyed the facility.
“This was a strategic strike aimed at neutralizing threats to international shipping and regional stability,” an IDF spokesperson said.
Iranian state media acknowledged an explosion in the Bandar Abbas area but provided no details on the extent of damage or casualties. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has not yet issued an official response.
The strike is the latest in a series of escalating exchanges between Israel and Iran, including recent Israeli operations in the Caspian Sea and the assassination of a senior Iranian naval commander. Tensions have spiked following missile attacks on Israel by Iran and its proxies.
The United States has called for restraint, while reaffirming its commitment to Israel’s security. Global oil markets remain volatile amid fears of a wider regional conflict.
