Ayatollah Arafi Appointed to Iran’s Temporary Leadership Council

Iran has appointed Ayatollah Alireza Arafi as a member of the country’s temporary Leadership Council following the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to official Iranian sources, the interim Leadership Council has been activated in line with the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran to ensure continuity of leadership during the transition period.

Ayatollah Arafi, a respected cleric and senior religious figure, will serve alongside other top state officials as part of the council responsible for exercising the constitutional duties of the Supreme Leader temporarily.

The formation of the Leadership Council follows constitutional provisions designed to maintain stability and governance in the absence of a permanent Supreme Leader. The council will oversee key national decisions and ensure continuity in state affairs while the Assembly of Experts begins the formal process of selecting a new Supreme Leader.

Political analysts say the appointment represents a critical step in Iran’s leadership transition, as the country navigates a sensitive and historic moment.

Ayatollah Arafi is widely known for his influence in religious and academic circles and is expected to play a key role in maintaining institutional stability during this period.

Further announcements are expected from Iranian authorities regarding the succession process in the coming weeks.
