ABUJA – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a direct and forceful ultimatum to striking FCT workers, warning them of severe consequences if they fail to comply with a court order suspending their industrial action.
In a video statement shared on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Wike stressed that obedience to the National Industrial Court’s ruling was mandatory. “If you disobey the law, there’re no consequences for disobeying the law? We must allow people to obey the law frankly,” the Minister stated.
He explicitly warned that the government’s approach would change from dialogue to enforcement starting Wednesday. “I’m giving them the window, you can see me in office today… From tomorrow, if you don’t come to work then we’re going to apply the big stick,” Wike declared.
The Minister delivered a specific caution against obstructing access to government offices, stating, “And from tomorrow, if you see anybody who says, oh, he wants to block the gate, we’ll make you a scapegoat.” He emphasized that the law would take its full course against any defiance.
This hardline stance signals the FCT Administration’s determination to restore normalcy and enforce judicial authority, even as it maintains that workers’ grievances must be pursued through lawful means.
