In an early political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the influential MOUAU/NRCRI Community Forum has publicly called on philanthropist and businessman, Ugwumba Chika Ishionwu, to contest for the Ikwuano State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly.
At a well-attended gathering in Umudike on Tuesday, the Forum, comprising staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU) and the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), described Ishionwu as the transformational leader Ikwuano needs. They cited his track record of community-focused projects and philanthropy as evidence of his preparedness for public office.
The Forum’s Chairman, Hon. Udo Abraham, stated, “Leadership is about vision, courage, creativity, and action—qualities Ugwumba Ishionwu has demonstrated in abundance. If he can achieve so much without holding public office, one can only imagine what he would accomplish with the mandate of the people.”
In his response, Ugwumba Ishionwu expressed gratitude but remained non-committal. He described the call as “weighty” and stated he would seek divine guidance and conduct broader consultations with stakeholders before making a final decision.
The early mobilization underscores the intensifying political permutations for the 2027 elections at the grassroots level and highlights the search for new faces in Abia’s political landscape.
