Businessman Arrested with Cocine at Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Brazil-based Nigerian businessman, Uche Franklin Onyekwere, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for drug trafficking.

The 47-year-old suspect was intercepted during the inward clearance of a South African Airways flight from Brazil via Johannesburg on Thursday, January 29, 2026, following actionable intelligence.

A body scan and strip search revealed parcels of cocaine wrapped around his right thigh and concealed in the soles of his shoes. A total of 1.60 kilograms of the substance was recovered.

Onyekwere admitted during interrogation that he intended to sell the drugs in Nigeria to raise capital for his toy business and fund the naming ceremony of his newborn child.
