Nigerians are raising doubts over whether their votes will genuinely count in the 2027 general election, following the unveiling of a “Reset Nigeria” agenda by opposition figures including Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, Peter Obi and Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed in Ibadan.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the concerns come amid reports of serving senators, commissioners and council chairmen openly threatening voters with violence and eviction unless they support the ruling APC.
Alagoa Morris of ECARD lamented that no one has faced punishment for 2023 electoral violence, while Prof. Benjamin Okaba of the Ijaw National Congress insisted hope must be backed by strong institutions and rule of law.
Niger Delta Peace Coalition’s Zik Gbemre cited the alleged blocking of Peter Obi from entering Yelwata as evidence of shrinking electoral fairness, while retired Army officer Chief Augustine Oko warned of unprecedented desperation and violence ahead.
However, NDC’s Cross River chairman, Godwin Akpama, and Middle Belt Forum President Dr Bitrus Pogu struck more hopeful notes, with Pogu arguing that the ruling party’s nervousness and threats actually signal that votes might count after all.
Several respondents called for INEC to publish a transparent post-mortem of the 2023 BVAS and IReV failures ahead of 2027.
