Northern protesters have publicly declared their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, insisting he will not get their votes.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the declaration was made in a video in which a spokesperson, who said he travelled from Kaduna to join the protest, stated plainly that Tinubu must go.
According to the spokesperson, worsening insecurity in Zamfara, Sokoto and other Northern states was a major driver of the protesters’ grievance, alleging that many people had been killed in both states amid ongoing violence.
He accused President Tinubu of never visiting affected communities despite the scale of the killings, and further alleged that an aircraft attack occurred in Zaria during a gathering for Eid-el-Maulud, claiming the incident was deliberate.
The spokesperson went further to accuse the President of harbouring hostility towards the North, insisting the attack was linked to what he described as anti-Arewa sentiment. He said he was also present at the protest to help translate statements from Arabic into English and Hausa for wider understanding.
The protest adds to growing agitation across parts of the North ahead of the 2027 general election, as insecurity concerns continue to shape political sentiment in the region.
CDA News Nigeria will continue monitoring reactions to this development.
