ABUJA – A Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the hearing of a suit seeking to stop the upcoming national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) until Thursday, prolonging the internal crisis rocking the opposition party.
The legal challenge, filed by certain aggrieved party members, aims to halt the convention, citing unresolved issues regarding the party’s leadership and nomination processes.
The court’s decision to shift the hearing has injected fresh drama into the already tense political landscape of the PDP, leaving delegates and aspirants in a state of uncertainty.
A source within the party who preferred anonymity stated, “This adjournment is a strategic setback. It prolongs the anxiety and diverts attention from our preparation for the convention. We are hopeful for a swift and favorable resolution on Thursday.”
Legal representatives for the plaintiffs argued that their case required a thorough examination to ensure the party’s constitution is upheld.
The postponement means the shadow of legal uncertainty will continue to loom over the convention preparations until at least Thursday, when the court is expected to hear arguments from both sides.
