The Accord Party has officially declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission and the courts recognize Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem as its authentic National Chairman, stating that the party’s leadership question is now conclusively settled. The affirmation was made during a world press conference held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, where Mgbudem addressed stakeholders and the media. He emphasized that his position is anchored on the party’s constitution, a national convention monitored by INEC in July 2024, and subsisting court rulings, urging the public to disregard any contrary claims. “The party is focused and unwavering in its commitment to democratic values, ethics, ethos, ideology and internal democracy,” Mgbudem stated. He detailed that the National Convention, which complied with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines, led to the proper election and swearing-in of his National Working Committee. Mgbudem also clarified ongoing legal disputes, noting that interim court orders had been misunderstood and had lapsed, with the status quo maintained in his favor pending further hearings. On internal party discipline, he confirmed that the National Executive Committee had passed a vote of confidence in his leadership after a disciplinary process. The party remains focused on upcoming elections, including the Osun, Ekiti, and FCT council polls, as well as preparations for the 2027 general elections. — Disclaimer: This report is based on statements made by the Accord Party’s national leadership.
