ABUJA – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has officially declared a dispute with the Federal Government over the deteriorating state of the nation’s education sector.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, announced the move on Tuesday, citing chronic underfunding, inadequate infrastructure, and the unresolved welfare issues of university lecturers as primary reasons for the confrontation.
Ajaero stated that the government has consistently failed to honor previous agreements, pushing the education system to the brink of collapse.
He gave the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to address these critical issues or face “serious consequences,” which may include nationwide industrial action.
The declaration signals a potential escalation in the ongoing tensions between organized labour and the government, threatening further disruption to academic activities across the country.
