The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dangerous turn on Monday when suspended National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu stormed the party’s national secretariat, moments after armed thugs invaded the premises.
Anyanwu arrived at the Wadata Plaza headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, and proceeded to his office. His arrival coincided with that of a group of armed thugs who entered the building, harassing party workers, security personnel, and journalists on the ground.
The scene intensified the ongoing power struggle within the opposition party. The thugs, chanting solidarity songs and waving placards, accused the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) of mismanaging the party and declared support for the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction, to which Anyanwu belongs.
This development comes just two days after Damagum announced Anyanwu’s one-month suspension over alleged anti-party activities—a move Anyanwu countered by announcing the suspension of Damagum and other NWC members.
After spending a few minutes in his office, Anyanwu left the secretariat. The situation, however, left staff and observers intimidated, highlighting the deepening divisions within the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
