ABUJA – A senior aide to President Bola Tinubu has firmly stated that the United States cannot launch any military action within Nigeria’s borders without the express consent of the Federal Government.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication, made the declaration in response to recent comments from US President Donald Trump, who threatened to deploy America’s “department of war” against terrorist groups in Nigeria.
In an interview with BBC World Service, Bwala emphasized Nigeria’s status as a sovereign nation. He stressed that any foreign intervention to address security challenges must be collaborative and respect the country’s territorial integrity.
“If it is a joint action with Nigeria, that is fine,” Bwala stated. “But diplomatically, it is wrong to invade a sovereign country without collaboration—especially one that is your partner in combating insecurity.”
Bwala also sought to clarify Trump’s remarks, expressing confidence that the issues would be resolved when both leaders meet. He dismissed claims of a religious genocide in Nigeria, explaining that the ongoing insecurity affects all citizens, regardless of their faith.
