Mixed reactions have continued to trail reports that former Kano State governor and national leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was named in a proposed United States congressional bill recommending sanctions over alleged religious freedom violations in Nigeria.
The proposal reportedly calls for visa restrictions, asset freezes, and other measures against individuals and groups accused of severe violations of religious freedom. Kwankwaso’s inclusion has sparked widespread debate among political stakeholders and supporters across the country.
While some Nigerians have called for a thorough investigation into the allegations, others have questioned the basis for linking the former presidential candidate to such claims. The NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement have strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as misleading and politically motivated.
Notably, Kwankwaso has not been officially designated a terrorist sponsor by the U.S. government. The controversy stems from a proposed legislative measure and not an official terrorism designation.
