Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the recognition of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the judgment, ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish the name of former governor Rochas Okorocha as the lawful winner of the party’s May 18, 2026 primary. The judge also restrained Uzodimma from parading himself as the senatorial candidate.
The court held that Uzodimma’s nomination breached Sections 29 and 32 of the Electoral Act. Justice Egwuatu noted that the documents tendered by the APC to justify Uzodimma’s nomination contradicted each other, indicating they were fabricated. He criticized INEC for accepting the nomination despite overwhelming evidence that Okorocha won the primary.
Reacting to the judgment, Okorocha’s counsel, O.J. Aboje, described it as a vindication of his client, who had been accused of forging results. Okorocha’s son, Amen Rochas, commended the judiciary for standing firm against alleged attempts to arm-twist it with fake news.
