Dangote Refinery has announced another reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, marking the fourth consecutive price cut in four weeks.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the latest adjustment reflects the refinery’s continued efforts to make petroleum products more affordable while strengthening competition in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the repeated reductions are expected to influence retail pump prices across the country, although the final prices paid by consumers will depend on marketers, transportation costs, and other distribution expenses.
Industry analysts say the consistent price cuts could provide relief for motorists, businesses, and manufacturers grappling with high operating costs, while also encouraging greater price competition among petroleum marketers.
The development comes as Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market continues to adjust to deregulation, with refiners and marketers responding to changes in crude oil prices, foreign exchange rates, and market demand.
Stakeholders believe the refinery’s pricing strategy could contribute to improved fuel supply, reduced import dependence, and greater stability in the domestic petroleum market if sustained.
