Defence Minister: Bandits Threatened to Kill Oyo Pupils if Troops Advanced

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has revealed that bandits threatened to kill abducted pupils in Oyo State if security forces moved closer during rescue operations.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the minister said the threats influenced the strategy adopted by security agencies, which prioritised the safety of the victims while working to secure their release.

According to the minister, security operatives exercised caution throughout the operation to prevent the abductors from carrying out their threats against the schoolchildren.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that security agencies continue to adopt professional tactics in responding to kidnapping and other security threats across the country.

The minister also assured Nigerians that efforts are being intensified to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve security operations, and bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
