As preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections gather momentum, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to navigate six major legal challenges that could shape the electoral process.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the legal issues include disputes arising from party primaries, candidate nominations, compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act, litigation over the registration and status of political parties, court rulings affecting electoral procedures, and constitutional matters relating to the conduct of the elections.
Legal analysts say these issues could influence the electoral timetable if not resolved promptly, stressing the need for political parties, candidates and the electoral commission to strictly comply with the law.
Stakeholders have also called on the judiciary to ensure the timely determination of election-related cases to avoid uncertainty ahead of the polls.
With political parties intensifying preparations for the 2027 elections, INEC is expected to continue working with relevant institutions to ensure a transparent, credible and peaceful electoral process.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that observers believe early resolution of legal disputes will strengthen public confidence in the electoral system and reduce the likelihood of prolonged post-election litigation.
