Delta State Police arrest 19-year-old student for possession of illegal firearm in latest security operation targeting youth crime.

Delta State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old student for unlawful possession of a firearm, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as a student of a tertiary institution in the state, was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Warri-Sapele Road. Officers recovered a locally-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said the teenager could not provide a valid explanation for carrying the weapon. He disclosed that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further interrogation.

Edafe warned that the command will continue aggressive patrols to rid the state of illegal arms and criminal elements. He urged parents and guardians to monitor their wards and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The arrest comes amid rising concerns over youth involvement in violent crime across the Niger Delta region. Community leaders have called for stronger collaboration between schools, families, and law enforcement to curb the trend.

The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation, police said.
