The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned five suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly responsible for the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and one civilian in Imo State.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area on October 1, 2026. The suspects were brought before the Justice Oputa State High Court in Owerri, the state capital, on Tuesday.

According to NTA News, the five arraigned suspects are Ibrahim Jiji, Aminu Haliru, Mohammed Ali, Usman Aliyu and Babangida Aliyu. Security sources disclosed that operations leading to the arrests were carried out between October 10 and 14 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the victims were rescued on October 7, 2026, during a joint security operation at Amakohia Ubi Village. The arraignment marks a significant step in efforts to prosecute those behind the abduction, which sparked concern over the safety of prospective corps members travelling across the country.

Security agencies have yet to disclose the specific charges filed against the suspects. CDA News Nigeria gathered that the case has been adjourned for further hearing.
