EFCC MARKS MALAMI’S ABUJA PROPERTY FOR FORFEITURE

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has marked a property in Abuja linked to former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), for forfeiture as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the anti-graft agency placed the property—a high-value asset located in the upscale Asokoro district—under its custody after obtaining a court order. The development follows months of investigation into financial transactions and asset acquisitions during Malami’s tenure as AGF from 2015 to 2023.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that the commission is pursuing its mandate to recover assets suspected to be proceeds of corruption but declined to provide specifics, noting that the matter is still under investigation.

“The commission will not relent in its efforts to ensure that all illegally acquired assets are forfeited to the Federal Government,” Oyewale said.

Malami, who served as chief law officer under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has yet to issue an official response. His legal team is reportedly studying the development.

The move is part of a broader wave of post-administration asset recovery efforts targeting former high-ranking officials. The EFCC has assured the public that all legal protocols are being strictly followed.
