The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Prof. Armayau Hamisu Bichi, for an alleged N19.7 million fraud.
Bichi was brought before Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar of the Katsina State High Court on Thursday alongside two others, Lawal Tukur Mani and Aliyu Lawal Jari, who allegedly received the bribes on his behalf.
The five-count charge accuses Bichi of obtaining bribes as kickbacks for awarding contracts during his tenure. One charge alleges he received N5 million from a contractor for the supply of medical equipment, paid into an account controlled by one of the co-defendants.
All three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecution counsel Salihu Sani requested a trial date to present evidence.
Defence lawyers applied for bail, which Justice Abubakar granted at N5 million each with one surety in like sum. The judge adjourned the case until March 12, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
