A family in Abia State has raised serious concerns over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl and subsequent threats reportedly issued against them, calling for urgent intervention from the wife of the governor, Priscilla Otti.
Mrs. Adanma Offor, speaking in Umuahia, alleged that the suspect, currently in police custody, has been sending threatening messages to the family, claiming he would harm them upon release. She further alleged that the suspect has previously evaded justice by leveraging influential connections.
According to the family, the suspect has faced similar allegations in the past, including incidents dating back several years involving minors within the community.
Residents of Ndume Ibeku also expressed concern, alleging a pattern of misconduct and calling for thorough investigation and accountability.
The suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, while community youths reportedly played a role in his apprehension before handing him over to law enforcement authorities.
Reacting to the development, the traditional ruler of the community, Rexford Ikechi Ohaeri, emphasized the need for due process. He stated that while the allegations are serious, the suspect must be properly investigated and, if found guilty, prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The family is appealing for protection and justice, urging relevant authorities to ensure the safety of victims and prevent any interference in the legal process.
