FG Declares Public Holidays for Eid-Ul-Fitr

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced official public holidays to commemorate the upcoming Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration, following the sighting of the Shawwal moon.

In a statement released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the holidays are intended to allow Nigerians across the country to partake in prayers, family gatherings, and cultural festivities associated with the festival.

Eid-Ul-Fitr marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting, reflection, and charitable acts. The government’s declaration ensures that both public and private sector employees can observe the occasion.

Authorities have urged all Nigerians to celebrate responsibly while adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols and other public health measures where necessary. Religious leaders have also been called upon to facilitate peaceful congregational prayers and community engagement during the festival.

The announcement aligns with the customary practice of the Federal Government in coordinating national observances for major religious and cultural events, reinforcing unity and shared cultural heritage among Nigerians of all faiths.

Citizens and businesses are advised to plan accordingly, as government offices and institutions will remain closed for the duration of the public holidays.
