A tragic helicopter crash on Mount Kilimanjaro has claimed the lives of all five people on board, including two Czech tourists, Tanzanian authorities confirmed on Thursday.
The crash occurred on Wednesday at an altitude of approximately 4,700 meters (15,400 feet) near Camp Barafu, a common stop for climbers ascending Africa’s highest peak.
The country’s aviation authority stated that the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
This incident adds to Tanzania’s recent aviation safety concerns. In June 2025, the European Union placed all Tanzanian air transport companies on its “at risk” list, citing a series of previous accidents, shortages of qualified personnel, and ineffective safety oversight.
The Kilimanjaro region is a major tourist destination, and the crash raises questions about safety standards for aerial tours and transport in the area.
