Former Ekiti Governor Segun Oni Rejoins APC After Five-Year Absence

ADO-EKITI – Former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), five years after he left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Oni, who governed the state from 2007 to 2010 on the PDP platform and was the SDP governorship candidate in 2022, registered as an APC member on Tuesday at his country home in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area.

Describing his return as a “homecoming,” Oni said the decision was carefully considered in the interest of Ekiti people and to support the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

“I have returned to APC to join hands with Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other stakeholders to further strengthen peace, unity and development in Ekiti State,” he stated.

He commended the state government’s inclusive governance and commitment to grassroots development, adding that political stability must be sustained beyond partisan differences.

The Coordinator of the APC e-registration exercise in Ekiti, Gold Adedayo, hailed Oni’s return as a major boost to the party’s membership drive and a significant political gain ahead of the June 20, 2026, governorship election.

“Former governor Oni is a respected individual in grassroots politics. Having him with us at this crucial time is a big plus,” Adedayo said.

Oni’s return is expected to strengthen APC’s foothold in Ekiti and reshape political alignments as the state prepares for another governorship contest.
