United States President Donald Trump has signaled the possibility of additional military strikes in Nigeria if attacks on Christians persist.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump referenced the US military operation carried out in Nigeria on Christmas Day, which targeted Islamic State affiliates. When asked if it marked the beginning of a broader campaign, he stated, “I’d love to make it a one-time strike. But if they continue to kill Christians, it will be a many-time strike.”
Trump framed the intervention as a response to what he described as “repeated killings of Christians” by extremist groups, though he acknowledged that Muslims have also suffered heavy losses in Nigeria’s conflict zones.
The Nigerian government has consistently rejected suggestions of targeted genocide, emphasizing that violent groups in the north attack both Muslims and Christians.
