Ikwuano, Abia State — A former revenue collector in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, Prince Ihechi Igbokwe, has alleged that he is receiving threats following claims he made about suspected illegal revenue collections involving officials of the council.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Igbokwe claimed he no longer feels safe in his home, alleging that intimidation and threats to his life have intensified since he publicly raised the allegations. He appealed to security agencies to provide him with protection and investigate the claims.
The former revenue collector alleged that while serving in the council, he was compelled to make payments to individuals allegedly connected to the local government administration. He claimed to possess documentary evidence, including bank transfer records, to support some of his allegations, while stating that other payments were made in cash. He also alleged that additional witnesses are willing to testify if an official investigation is conducted.
“I can’t move freely anymore. I can’t even sleep in my house because of the threats,” Igbokwe alleged.
According to reports, the Executive Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani, was also heard in a voice recording questioning Igbokwe over some of the allegations. However, the Mayor, his wife, Mrs. Nnena Fedelia Nwaubani, and the council’s Chief of Staff had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting despite efforts by another media organisation to obtain their reactions.
The allegations remain unproven, and no court has found any of the individuals mentioned liable. CDA News Nigeria notes that those named are entitled to the presumption of innocence and have the right to respond. Security agencies are expected to determine the facts through any investigation they may undertake.
