Abuja, Nigeria — No fewer than 143 companies are competing for 50 oil blocks in Nigeria’s ongoing oil licensing round, highlighting renewed investor interest in the country’s upstream petroleum sector.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the exercise is being conducted by the relevant regulatory authorities as part of efforts to attract fresh investments, boost crude oil production and unlock the nation’s hydrocarbon resources.
Industry stakeholders believe the licensing round will encourage exploration activities, create employment opportunities and increase government revenue if successfully concluded. The process is also expected to strengthen Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s leading oil and gas producers.
“The licensing exercise is designed to promote transparency, competitiveness and investment in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas industry,” an official involved in the process said.
The authorities are expected to evaluate bids submitted by the interested companies before announcing the successful applicants in accordance with established regulatory guidelines. Observers say the outcome of the exercise will play a significant role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s energy sector.
