ABIA STATE – Hon. Udo Oluchi Ibeji, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a resignation letter dated January 6, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Old Umuahia Ward in Umuahia South Local Government Area, the former lawmaker cited “too much divisions in the party” as his reason for leaving.
The letter, sighted by CDA News Nigeria, marks another significant exit from the PDP in Abia State, following a trend of defections that have weakened the party’s structure in the South-East ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Ibeji served in the Green Chamber and has remained an influential political voice in Ikwuano/Umuahia politics since leaving office. His resignation reflects deepening internal crises within the PDP .
Political analysts note that such defections by former federal legislators often trigger realignments at the grassroots, potentially affecting voter loyalty and party cohesion in subsequent elections.
As of press time, Hon. Ibeji has not announced a new political affiliation, but his exit adds to the mounting challenges facing the PDP as it struggles to rebuild and present a united front ahead of 2027.
