Ghana has carried out a swift diplomatic retaliation by deporting three Israeli nationals on Wednesday, following what it called the “ill-treatment and unjustified deportation” of three Ghanaian travellers by Israel last week.
The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the Israelis were expelled upon arrival in Accra. The move comes after seven Ghanaians, including four parliamentarians, were detained for hours at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport on December 7. Three were subsequently deported.
Ghana had earlier condemned the incident as “provocative and unacceptable,” summoning the Israeli Chargé d’Affaires. Both nations have now agreed to seek an amicable resolution.
