Gunmen Kill Kogi APC Chairman, Abduct Another on Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway

The attack has heightened concerns over the security of major highways linking communities in Dekina, Ofu and neighbouring parts of Kogi State.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman for Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, and abducted another occupant of his vehicle in a brutal attack along the Itobe-Ochadamu Expressway .

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area, as Yunusa was returning from Lokoja, the state capital . According to police reports, armed assailants emerged from the surrounding bush around 5pm and opened fire on motorists .

Following the attack, a blue Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 636 CH was found abandoned along the highway. The driver, identified as Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, was found dead inside the vehicle, while another occupant was taken into the bush by the attackers .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the Kogi State Police Command has launched a joint operation with other security agencies to comb the surrounding forest, rescue the abducted victim and apprehend the perpetrators . The body of the deceased has been evacuated to Grimard Hospital, Anyigba, for autopsy .

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has directed sustained security operations along the affected corridor and ordered efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice .

The command urged motorists and residents along the route to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies .
