Immigration Denies Seizing Senator’s Passport at Airport

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has denied claims by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that its officers seized her passport to prevent her from traveling abroad on Tuesday.

The Kogi Central lawmaker had earlier livestreamed from the airport, alleging her passport was withheld without legal justification. In the viral video, she questioned the action, stating she had no court order restricting her movement.

However, NIS spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi described the incident as a “routine immigration procedure.” He clarified that officers were conducting standard verification checks and that the senator was never stopped from traveling.

“The passport was never seized. She has traveled since then,” Akinlabi stated, adding that the senator had already boarded her flight when her video began circulating online.
