The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Hope Uzodimma to introduce a policy of free and compulsory education in all public primary and secondary schools.
The motion, raised during Tuesday’s plenary, highlighted the struggle many rural families face in educating their children, which contributes to school dropouts.
Lawmakers called for the establishment of an education trust fund and the provision of computers and internet access in public schools to enhance digital learning.
The House also recommended setting up student loan help desks in all local government areas to improve access to federal education support programs.
The Speaker directed that the resolutions be transmitted to the governor for action.
