Indonesia Market Fire Kills 11, Including Six Children

…Blaze Rages for Three Hours, Destroys 40 Kiosks and Homes in Papua

A devastating fire tore through a market in Indonesia’s eastern Papua region, killing at least 11 people, including six children aged between two and nine years old .

CDA News Nigeria reports that the fire broke out shortly after midnight on Monday in the town of Paniai, Central Papua province, and quickly spread to several shophouses and surrounding buildings . Local police spokesman Henry Manurung confirmed that five of the victims were adults, while six were children .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the blaze raged for more than three hours, destroying at least 40 kiosks and houses despite the deployment of fire trucks and water cannons . The tightly packed arrangement of buildings made firefighting efforts extremely difficult, according to police .

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, though some police sources have suggested it may have been triggered by a drone battery explosion . The tragedy highlights the persistent fire risks in Indonesia, where densely packed structures and inadequate safety measures often make blazes challenging to contain .
