INEC Assures Smooth Anambra Election Despite BVAS Network Glitches

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pledged a seamless governorship election in Anambra State, despite encountering minor network issues during a recent test of its voting technology.

The assurance was given by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, during a meeting with security chiefs in Abuja. The commission recently conducted a mock accreditation exercise to test its Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS).

While the test revealed network challenges in 12 polling units, Prof. Amupitan confirmed that efforts are underway to resolve the problems before the November 8 election.

“Following our comprehensive readiness assessment across the state, INEC is confident of its full preparedness for the polls,” he stated.

In a related development, INEC has extended the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Anambra until November 2. This decision aims to ensure more eligible voters can collect their cards and participate in the election.

The Federal Government, through the National Security Adviser, also warned politicians against violence, promising a strong response to any breach of peace.
