Abuja – The Nigerian House of Representatives has raised a serious security alarm, revealing that the National Assembly has received direct threats from terrorists to bomb the legislative complex.
The disclosure was made by the Chairman of the House Committee on Internal Security, Garba Muhammad, during a public hearing. He stressed the urgent need to strengthen security for the nation’s highest legislative body.
Muhammad stated that the National Assembly faces increasing security challenges, including theft, vandalism, and infiltration by unregistered visitors. He warned that without immediate action, these threats could disrupt legislative operations and destabilize the nation’s democracy.
In response, lawmakers are considering a bill to establish a dedicated Legislative Security Directorate. This new agency would be tasked with improving security management to safeguard lawmakers, staff, and visitors, ensuring the National Assembly remains both secure and accessible to the public.
