Kogi Kidnapping: Gunmen Abduct Travellers Along Aloma-Egane Expressway, 11 Rescued

NYSC members travelling from Bayelsa orientation camp were among those abducted in Wednesday’s attack.

Suspected kidnappers attacked vehicles along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday, August 26, abducting several passengers while others escaped into the surrounding bush. One of the passengers who escaped reportedly sustained a gunshot wound .

The incident occurred at about 4:40 p.m. around Ogene Zaria, near the Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction, when armed hoodlums emerged from the bush and blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions . The abducted passengers were reportedly travelling from the NYSC orientation camp in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State to Abuja .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Ofu led a joint security team to the scene, where two abandoned vehicles—a Peace Mass Transit white Hummer bus and a yellow 18-seater bus—were recovered .

A coordinated bush-combing and rescue operation was immediately launched, resulting in the successful rescue of 11 abducted victims, including the drivers of the two buses . Preliminary debriefing indicates that most of the rescued victims are NYSC members .

The rescued victims were debriefed and, after necessary procedures, allowed to continue their journey . However, some passengers are still believed to be in captivity. Relatives of missing corps members have taken to social media pleading for government intervention .

The police command assured the public that every available operational and intelligence resource is being deployed to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators .
