Woman Found Dead In Cross River Hotel, Police Hunt Male Guest

The Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of an unidentified woman found dead in a hotel room in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state, CDA News Nigeria reports.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the incident was reported on Tuesday at about 8:00 p.m. by the hotel director, manager and receptionist on duty at the facility along Clifford Street.

Police spokesman, Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said preliminary investigation revealed that an unidentified male guest lodged in Room 2 of the hotel on Monday night with the female companion, whose identity is yet to be established, and was allegedly not properly documented at check-in.

He said the receptionist, believing the occupants had checked out after noticing the room door open in the early hours of Tuesday, entered to switch off the ceiling fan and discovered the woman lying unresponsive on the bed.

Investigators who visited the scene observed apparent marks of violence on her face and neck. The body was evacuated to General Hospital, Calabar, where she was confirmed dead and deposited at the mortuary pending autopsy.

Some tablets recovered from her handbag were secured as exhibits, though police said no link had been established between the medication and her death.

The receptionist has been detained for questioning, while detectives have launched a manhunt for the male guest, who is yet to be traced.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has ordered a professional investigation and urged the public to avoid speculation while providing any credible information that could aid the case.
