Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers in Kwara, Recover AK-47 Rifles in Major Security Operation

The Kwara State Police Command has dealt a significant blow to criminal networks operating across the state following the arrest of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of AK-47 assault rifles — in a swift, intelligence-driven security operation that has been widely commended by residents and security stakeholders.

The suspects, who are currently in police custody and undergoing intensive interrogation, were apprehended by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command following credible intelligence reports and sustained covert surveillance operations that pinpointed the location and activities of the criminal elements.

The recovery of AK-47 rifles from the suspects raises serious concerns about the level of arms proliferation fuelling kidnapping and violent crime across Kwara State and the broader North-Central geopolitical zone — a region that has increasingly become a flashpoint for banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and armed criminal activities in recent years.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, while confirming the arrests and weapons recovery, described the operation as a testament to the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and peace of mind of all residents across the state.

“Our operatives acted swiftly and decisively on credible intelligence. These arrests and the recovery of dangerous weapons demonstrate that the Kwara State Police Command is fully committed to dismantling criminal networks and making our state unsafe for kidnappers and other violent criminals,” the Commissioner declared.

Residents of Kwara State, who have expressed growing anxiety over rising kidnapping incidents in recent months, have welcomed the arrests with relief, commending the police for their professionalism, vigilance, and operational effectiveness in neutralising the threat posed by the suspects.

Security analysts note that the recovery of military-grade AK-47 rifles from the suspects underscores the urgent need for sustained inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing, and community policing initiatives to tackle the growing sophistication and firepower of criminal networks operating across Kwara and neighbouring states.

The two suspects will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of a thorough and comprehensive investigation, the police command confirmed.

The Kwara State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and continue to cooperate with security agencies in the collective effort to maintain peace and order across the state.
