Kwankwaso can’t stay in any party he doesn’t enjoy total control – Buhari’s ex-aide

A former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari has taken a swipe at the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing him as a politician who cannot remain in any party where he does not enjoy absolute control.

The ex-aide, who spoke anonymously to CDA News Nigeria on Tuesday, was reacting to Kwankwaso’s recent comments about the NNPP not being a “doormat” for any individual, despite widespread perception of Kwankwaso’s dominance in the party.

“Kwankwaso has a pattern. He left the PDP, he left the APC, and now he is already uncomfortable in NNPP because he doesn’t have total control. That’s his style. He can’t stay anywhere he is not the sole decision-maker,” the source said.

The former aide argued that this leadership style has cost Kwankwaso the opportunity to build a lasting national political structure.

Kwankwaso’s media team has dismissed the remark as the ranting of an “unidentified bitter ex-official,” insisting that the NNPP remains a collective project.

Political observers say the friction highlights deeper tensions within opposition camps ahead of 2027.
