Lagos CP Dismisses Sowore’s ‘Shoot On Sight’ Claim, Defends Wanted Declaration

LAGOS – The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has firmly denied allegations made by activist Omoyele Sowore that the police received a “shoot on sight” directive from the Inspector-General of Police.

The denial was made during a television interview on Wednesday, amidst a public dispute over a planned protest. CP Jimoh described the claim as “mischievous,” stating unequivocally that no such order was given by the IGP to any police formation in the country.

The Police Commissioner defended his earlier decision to declare Sowore wanted, stating it was a lawful measure to prevent a planned blockade of the Third Mainland Bridge, which he said was based on intelligence from social media posts. He confirmed that 13 suspects were arrested and equipment for the protest was impounded.

Sowore had previously condemned the police declaration as illegal and politically motivated.
