Comrade Abiodun Aladetan has firmly declared that he remains the duly elected Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), dismissing as baseless and unconstitutional any reports or claims suggesting his removal from office.
Aladetan stated that he was unaware of any valid National Executive Council (NEC) decision or lawful pronouncement removing him, insisting: “The election that produced me was conducted in line with the delegate list and election guidelines issued by Comrade Nuhu Toro on behalf of the national body of the TUC.”
The embattled labour leader alleged an unconstitutional attempt by TUC President Festus Osifo and Secretary-General Nuhu Toro to replace him with an individual who did not contest for the chairmanship position but had obtained nomination forms for the office of secretary and was elected into that position.
The Lagos TUC council accused the national body of abruptly sabotaging the duly conducted delegates’ conference after initiating the process, alleging a parallel gathering was organised elsewhere, dominated by a single affiliate with inflated delegate figures. “It was not a conference; it was a coronation. Candidates were anointed, not elected. Outcomes were arranged, not earned,” the council stated.
Aladetan disclosed that he has taken decisive legal action, filing suit No. NICN/LA/129/2026 — Comrade Aladetan Abiodun vs Comrade Festus Osifo and four others — at the National Industrial Court in Lagos, expressing absolute confidence in the integrity and independence of the judicial process.
“I am the validly elected Chairman of the Lagos Council of the Trade Union Congress. My mandate is rooted in democratic processes, and I remain committed to peace, due process, and internal democracy within the congress,” Aladetan affirmed.
