The School of General Studies (SGS) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has nominated the Chairman/CEO of JX Group, Dr. Chibudom Jephthah Chigozirim, for a prestigious Peace Award, as the institution prepares to host the 2026 International Peace Day celebration.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the nomination recognises Dr. Chigozirim’s sustained contributions to community development, philanthropy, and national cohesion, aligning with this year’s United Nations theme for the International Day of Peace: “Invest in Peace — For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day” .

The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has emphasised that peace is not a passive achievement but a daily practice requiring investment in people and communities .
Dr. Chigozirim, a multifaceted entrepreneur and philanthropist, has built a reputation for giving back to his community and championing causes that promote national development . His portfolio spans entertainment, hospitality, finance, and sports, with roles including Chairman of JX Group, CEO of JX Resort, and CEO of an ethical record label . In January 2026, American Management University conferred an honorary Doctor of Science Degree on him in recognition of his distinguished contributions to business and leadership .
The International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21, having been established by the UN General Assembly in 1981 to strengthen the ideals of peace among all nations and peoples . The day is marked as a period of non-violence and ceasefire, with this year’s observance falling on September 21, 2026 .
