N5bn Defamation Suit: Okonkwo Dares Obi, Says ‘I Have Evidence Against You’

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has fired back at the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following the filing of a N5 billion defamation lawsuit against him.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Okonkwo mocked Obi over the suit, suggesting that the former Labour Party candidate was only seeking a financial lifeline for his 2027 campaign.

“If you need money to campaign, just ask for help. There is no need to sue your own kinsman for N5 billion to fund your ambition,” Okonkwo said.

He stood by his earlier allegations that Obi and other NDC leaders demanded illicit payments from House of Representatives aspirants, insisting he had documentary evidence to back his claims.

Okonkwo also dared Obi to appear in court, saying he would prove that the NDC presidential candidate “is not the saint he portrays himself to be.”

Obi’s legal team has yet to respond to Okonkwo’s latest outburst. The defamation suit is expected to come up for hearing in the coming weeks.
