LAGOS – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has stated that a recent violent attack on its officials at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex was a premeditated attempt to assassinate senior enforcement officers.
The incident occurred during a routine raid on counterfeit and substandard products. According to NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, armed hoodlums, acting on a signal from within the market, locked the gates and assaulted the team.
Officers escaped under a barrage of stones, with ten operational vehicles vandalized. Iluyomade revealed that “reliable intelligence” confirmed the attack was a coordinated plan.
NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, condemned the assault, calling it an attack on national health security. She reaffirmed the agency’s resolve not to be intimidated and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The agency also announced intensified surveillance at the nation’s ports and airports in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service to curb the influx of fake goods.
