LAGOS — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Nwankwo Onyebuchi, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for attempting to smuggle 1.550kg of cocaine to India .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Onyebuchi, a marble dealer in Lagos, was intercepted at the departure hall of Terminal II while preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to New Delhi . The cocaine was factory-fitted into the walls and railings of his check-in luggage .
CDA News Nigeria reports that the suspect confessed to selling off his marble business and all his assets to raise N23 million for the cocaine, hoping to sell it in India for N100 million .
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives raided a warehouse at Ago Palace area, Okota, Lagos, recovering 3,776 cartons containing 377,600 bottles of codeine syrup valued at over N2.6 billion . The agency also arrested a 55-year-old kingpin, Shoremi Kayode, at Ipaja, seizing 324kg of synthetic cannabis worth N972 million .
Meanwhile, NDLEA operations across Kwara, Oyo, Delta, Plateau, Kano, and Edo states led to multiple arrests and seizures of tramadol, skunk, and other opioids . All suspects are in custody and will face prosecution.
