NFF Denies FIFA Has Rejected Nigeria’s Appeal Against DR Congo

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied widespread reports that FIFA has rejected its appeal against the Democratic Republic of Congo for allegedly fielding ineligible players during their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff.

NFF Secretary General, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, stated in a television interview that the federation has received no official communication from FIFA dismissing the petition.

“The NFF has not received any letter from FIFA saying they have thrown away our petition. We have checked our emails, and there was no letter from FIFA,” Sanusi emphasized.

Nigeria lost to DR Congo 4–3 on penalties in November after a 1–1 draw, missing out on Africa’s slot for the Intercontinental Playoffs. The NFF subsequently submitted a formal complaint to FIFA questioning the eligibility of some Congolese players.

Sanusi challenged those spreading the rejection claims to produce evidence, insisting the matter remains under consideration by world football’s governing body.
